Most of these recordings are of Lenny Bruce’s stand-up comedy performances, and many are whole or partial recordings of the same performance (with variations in audio quality), or combination clips from various performances. These recordings are from the personal collection of the Bruce family and some of this material has been previously released in edited form. Information about and brief clips of the majority of these recordings can be found below. This collection contains sixty-five recordings on reel-to-reel audio and compact cassette tapes, all of which have been restored and digitized thanks to a grant from The GRAMMY Foundation® Grant Program. Leonard Alfred Schneider (Octo– August 3, 1966), better known as Lenny Bruce, was a comedian, author, and social critic, whose corrosive and transgressive satire as well as his boldness in pushing the envelope of the laws of obscenity have made him an iconic figure in American culture.
